In the two years since his succession to the throne of Morocco, His Majesty King Mohammed VI devised an ambitious strategy to dramatically raise the profile of Morocco through the Vision 2010 development strategy, and to boost tourism fivefold with the development of six sites along the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines. Each site will house a major resort complex, with private property investment opportunities, hotels, golf courses, marinas and a host of entertainment facilities.

Along with the development of these sites will come a dramatic evolution of the infrastructure and transport systems to ensure that the resorts are properly serviced.
The time taken to drive from the airport at Oujda will be reduced to only 25 minutes on completion of the new motorway.
It is predicted that along with the creation of the new resort that over 600,000 jobs will be created, and the education and training of service staff in corporate hospitality is already well underway.
One of the first sites to be developed is the Mediterranea Saidia project on the northern Mediterranean coast, close to the Algerian border. The project is being developed along 7 km of pristine beaches, in a total area of 7,000,000 Sq M. The access to the resort is currently being developed further and will be ready in time for the expected completion of the first phase of the resort in late 2008.
As part of the development strategy, the coastal town of Saidia, already a major attraction in the summer months, will receive a face lift and regeneration of the old town is currently underway.
The complex is being privately managed, and will ultimately consist of 11 beachfront hotels, including the Barcelo resort, with a wing devoted entirely to King Mohammed VI and his entourage.
Golf will feature heavily with three 18-hole courses being created, one of which will be of championship quality and will be set to host many international golfing tournaments.
The marina has now been finished and has capacity for 840 berths including some super-yacht berths of 65M, for which there is high demand in this part of the Mediterranean. There will be two slipways for the easy launching of small vessels. The marina will have 340 private berths with 500 available for lease to ensure that the marina is kept full of craft, rather than allowing too many to be purchased solely for investment. Around the marina area will be a traditional Moroccan medina, with retail units, shopping areas, and chic Moroccan Cuisine Cafes and traditional arts and craft units.
In addition, the Saidia development will house a yacht club, diving school, Water Park, theme park, exhibition and conference centres, helipad, medical centre, football, tennis and equestrian centre, Olympic swimming pool and 7 km of beachfront promenades.
There are to be 3000 private apartments, penthouses, and villas available for private purchase all located walking distance from the marina, golf courses and beautiful beaches set in pristine landscaped gardens.
The site has been developed to create a feeling of space and privacy, with apartment blocks only available in a block of 4, with one penthouse. The penthouses will have beautiful roof terraces with views to the sea and/or golf courses.
There will be 3 large swimming pools on site of which the heated indoor pool will be at the clubhouse, part of the health club and spa complex.
The apartments are completed to the highest possible standards, with German kitchens with all appliances, air conditioning and available fully furnished as standard.
The villas are available in 4 different styles each with a Moroccan or Mediterranean influence. They have the same high specification with the option for a built in BBQ or Jacuzzi on the private roof terrace and preinstalled for satellite TV.
Further projects are being released with some of the most impressive and largest villas on the complex now available. These provide the ultimate in luxury, each individually designed and different from the neighbours.
